Kaokao Trapezoid
$22.00
Kaokao is a traditional Māori weaving pattern, often seen in tukutuku panels (a form of ornamental latticework found on the wall of wharenui (meeting houses)).
The pattern is a visual representation of the protection of the ribs around vital organs and the shelter provided by a meeting house. It often depicts the arms and ribs of a warrior as they perform a haka, a traditional Māori dance of challenge.
The crosshatch or intertwined nature of the pattern can symbolize the coming together of people, fostering strength through unity.
