Kawakawa Leaf Hoops

$22.00

Colour

Kawakawa is a native New Zealand plant, known for its distinctive heart-shaped leaves and its significant use in traditional Māori medicine. It is found in coastal and lowland areas of the North and northern South Islands.

In Māori culture, kawakawa holds spiritual significance representing healing, strength, protection, courage, and grief, with its heart-shaped leaves symbolizing the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. The plant is deeply integrated into rites of passage and traditional healing practices, from blessing warriors and opening new buildings to mourning the deceased. Its spiritual role stems from its holistic connection to Papatūānuku (the Earth Mother) and its revered status within rongoā Māori (Māori medicine).
